Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) is the state’s leading organization for economic development professionals. MEDA enhances the knowledge and skills of its members and encourages partnerships and networking among those committed to bringing jobs and investment to Maryland. In addition to quarterly conferences, the organization’s members have access to opportunities, discounts, and scholarships for professional development. Members may also participate in awards programs that highlight innovative economic development, redevelopment, and marketing projects and programs in the State of Maryland.
The organization’s annual conference was held this past week in Cambridge, MD …and what an exciting conference it was for Frederick!
Kicking off the conference, our very own Richard Griffin was installed as the new President of the statewide organization.
“I am honored to continue serving for the Maryland Economic Development Association in my newly elected position as President," said Richard G. Griffin. "I believe that economic development is not only about creating jobs and businesses but also about transforming lives and building communities. I look forward to working with the board and members of MEDA to support and advance the growth of small businesses in our state, inspire innovation, and create new opportunities that enrich our communities."
Later, the Union Knitting Mills Project along Carroll Creek was honored as Economic Development Project of the Year for large communities. Two programs sponsored in part by The City of Frederick – Frederick Community College's Food Entrepreneurship Program and Frederick County Office of Economic Development's EmPower Program – were also showcased as leading economic development initiatives.
Throughout the entire conference, our City team had the opportunity to network and share ideas with community leaders across the state, including Maryland’s State Secretaries and Governor Wes Moore.
