Earlier this week, Governor Larry Hogan announced the awardees from the Fiscal Year 2021 application round for state revitalization programs administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. Among the grants announced are two awards — totaling to $225,000— for projects sponsored by The City of Frederick.
The impressive 81,446 SF adaptive reuse project at 400 East Church is transforming the existing warehouse into over 83 loft-style apartments across three floors. When completed, the apartment building will provide new, centrally-located workforce housing to the Frederick community. Check out photos of the progress here.
Constructed in 1956, the building at 1341 Hughes Ford originally served as an eyeglasses manufacturing plant and then memorably as the Hartz Men’s Clothing manufacturing facility until its closure in 2006. In recent years, the aging building has again undergone a major transformation – now becoming a vibrant retail, service, and business center. Learn more about this exciting project here.
On October 28, 2020, The City of Frederick celebrated the completion of the runway extension at Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK). The project brings the total length of Runway 5-23 to 5819’. This new length improves the safety margins for all local aircraft and will accommodate increased fuel and passenger loads for larger jets flying in and out of Frederick.
