Maryland’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) provides support to local entrepreneurs and small businesses. In addition to providing free individual consultation, the organization hosts comprehensive training programs — for those just thinking about starting a business to executive training — with most classes at low to no cost. February courses will again be held online in webinar format.
The Opportunity Zone program is a federal initiative to promote investment in specific communities nation-wide. Frederick County restaurants and food service businesses are being offered a second round of grants to support the hard-hit industry. County Executive Jan Gardner announced that an additional $1.3 million would be distributed this month. Food service businesses that received funding in the first round will automatically receive a second grant. Those that did not receive funds in the fall may apply now through 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 13.
Frederick County’s Office of Economic Development holds monthly networking events geared towards helping minorities start and grow a business. These events include experts on topics such as marketing, finances, procurement, real estate, exit strategy and more; as well as the opportunity to meet fellow entrepreneurs.
