Where SHE is Now: Hannah King

S.H.E. Pitch, which recently closed its fourth year, is a pitch competition for female entrepreneurs in both the “idea stage” and “growth stage.” The event, hosted by the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce with sponsorship by The City of Frederick, offers participants an opportunity to present their business ventures in a shark-tank style event to win substantial cash prizes, gain publicity, and forge new networking connections.

Year after year the program continues to not only empower new entrepreneurs but also make a significant impact on our local economy. Since the program’s inception, we have proudly watched seven past SHE Pitch winners go on to launch or grow a business within The City of Frederick limits.

Below we catch up past standout and current local business owner Hannah King to find out ‘Where SHE is Now’:

(Formerly SL STUDIO)

2022 People’s Choice Award

How has your business grown or changed since SHE Pitch?

Since SHE Pitch, Squadstyle has undergone significant transformation and growth. We’ve expanded our offerings and rebranded from SL Studio to Squadstyle Work 'n Wellness, a change that better reflects our mission and community focus. We’ve grown into a vibrant hub for wellness-minded professionals in Frederick, providing them with a supportive environment that fosters both personal wellness and professional success.

What’s next for your business?

We’re focused on continually improving our members’ experience. Recently, we’ve added more soundproof phone booths for privacy during calls and upgraded our workspace by introducing eight more sit-stand desks, ensuring that every member has access to a healthier, more ergonomic environment.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to enhance our wellness patio with a cold plunge and additional outdoor workstations. We’re also planning to deepen our community engagement through partnerships with local businesses and by hosting wellness-focused events that bring the Frederick community together in meaningful ways.

Looking back, what was the most valuable takeaway from your SHE Pitch experience?

One of the most valuable takeaways from SHE Pitch was the opportunity to participate in the TAP acceleration program as a finalist. Over five weeks, two mentors provided a deep dive into my business, offering invaluable insights and actionable steps that significantly shaped Squadstyle’s growth. The program even guided our rebranding, which has been a critical factor in our success. The experience reinforced the importance of community support and mentorship in driving business growth.

Advice to fellow entrepreneurs

Trust in your vision but remember that your well-being is the foundation of your business's success. Prioritizing personal wellness isn’t just beneficial—it’s essential. If you’re not at your best, neither will your business be.

Entrepreneurship requires resilience and the ability to adapt and staying well physically and mentally will help you navigate those inevitable challenges.

And, remember that you don’t have to do it all alone. A strong support system can provide the encouragement and perspective you need to keep moving forward, even when the road gets tough.
