For those unfamiliar with BioBuzz, what is your group's mission?

BioBuzz exists to create better experiences for job seekers and employers in the BioHealth Capital Region and Greater Philadelphia. We do this through highlighting regional news (employers and people) as well as employment resources, events, and jobs.

Who is your target audience?

Employers and job seekers, but also students and biotech professionals in the markets we serve.

What services and opportunities do you offer to Frederick businesses?

For local biotech and life science companies, we offer advertising, annual sponsorship and featured employer sponsorship (comprehensive ads, content, events, and employer brand services) as well as recruiting.

What project, program or topic is your group currently passionate about?

Building the talent pipeline and highlighting employers of choice. We're in an incredibly competitive job market. Anyone whose role is within hiring can attest that their job has perhaps never been as difficult as it is today. We use our industry knowledge, deeply embedded connections, media platform, and creative solutions to provide valuable results for our clients.

Have you recognized any new trends in the Bio industry you can share with us?

Lack of lab space is one of the most recognizable and undesirable "trends" that the industry faces. Companies like CRB, Scheer Partners, DPR, and Matan are actively building to address this shortage for the region's growing companies.

Talent is another recognizable "trend". While the current market is favorable (to an extent) for job seekers, it's a bear for employers. Job boards (quick wins) are out and employer brand (long term strategy) is here to stay. Just like working from home and/or hybrid work - the future of talent isn't going back. Innovate now or struggle to remain competitive.

What trends do you see specifically in regards to Frederick?

Apprenticeship programs. We recently held an insightful program with Frederick City/County and successful life science companies in the region. (watch above)

The panel highlighted how they're finding success and one key element was "creativity". You have to be able to adapt to find success. Partnering with local schools is a no-brainer to help fill the talent pipeline, better qualify the candidate pool, and shorten the onboarding process of new hires. VaLogic/Frederick Community College and Kite/Hood/Frederick Community College are great examples that you'll be seeing more of from growing companies finding hiring success.
